In this blog, I am responding and writing an evaluation of the film The Social Network. This movie is based on true events that happened in the early 2000's.
The film that I will be doing my evaluative essay on is titled “The Social Network” directed by David Fincher. The film was centered on the creation of Facebook. The main plot displayed how the main character Mark Zuckerberg put together pages of coding to start the multi-billion dollar company originally called “The Facebook” but is better known as “Facebook” which gained success right away. Throughout the movie Mark began gaining and losing friends as his success grew, the Winklevoss twins push to sue him because they argued that Mark stole their idea for Facebook. Originally Facebook was created for only Harvard students but with the overwhelming success it expanded very quickly. During the entirety of the movie a major theme was displaying how money can ruin friendships and change people. The two best friends Eduardo Saverin and Mark grew apart and even ended up going to court over the success of the company that they started together. Another major theme in the film was how quickly social media grew and how dependent people are on social media. When Mark and Eduardo met the girls at the Bill Gates Lecture Christy Ling said “Facebook me” as a means to contact her later that evening. I really enjoyed the film, before watching I was not educated on how Facebook began. I knew that Mark Zuckerberg was the founder but I was not aware that the idea originally came from the Winklevoss twins. Now that I have done my own research outside of the movie I think that the movie was well produced and portrayed actual events really well. Being a part of the millennial generation Facebook has had a major impact on my life. From the major impact it automatically sparked my interest to learn how it was started and learn more about Mark Zuckerberg. I have also had a lot of experience with Facebook and to see how much it was improved from the beginning helped me shape a better evaluation of the film and how it was portrayed also.
I was with you on the same thing, there is still speculation that surrounds Facebook and who came up with it and I didn't know who really is the "founder" of it. But it is really too bad that people let money come in between friendships like that and ruin them. Very good review of the film, might have to watch it over break sometime.
